Ofer Canetti - Cello - English

Born in Israel, 1987 Finished his studies in The Buchmann-Mehta School of music at the Tel-Aviv University with Mr. Hillel Zori, and was granted the Bachelor of Music Degree of Cello playing. Today is a student of prof. Klaus Kanngiesser in the Musikhochschule Köln, Germany, and studying with prof. Uzi Wiesel in many occasions.

Performed as a soloist with Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Haifa Symphony Orchestra, Trevisso Chamber Orchestra, The Academy Soloists Orchestra of Astana and in Recitals around Israel and Europe. Ofer was recorded numerous times as a soloist and with different chamber groups in the Israeli classical-music Radio station "Kol Hamusika". Ofer performs in many occasions Israeli compositions such as Paul Ben-Haim Cello Concerto, "Kaddish" by Mark Kopitman and "Confession" by Noam Sheriff.

Winner in excellence of the American-Israeli cultural foundation scholarship (2005) and from 2007 is supported by the prestigious scholarship for studies abroad. Winner of the "Allegro Vivo" festival in Austria (2008) for his performance of the Sonata in F, for Violoncello and Piano, of R. Strauss. Won the first prize of the String department competition in the Buchman-Mehta school of music (2007) and won the Chamber music competition (2006). Ofer is also professionally supported by the N.I.C.E foundation.

Took part in Festivals around the World such as The International Cello Congress in Israel 2004-8, The Carl Flesch Akademie 2006, The Canetti International Music Festival 2001-8, Kronberg academy 2008, The Radolfzell Summer Akademie, The Zutphen Cello Festival, etc., where he attended masterclasses with Cellists like, Prof. Uzi Wizel, prof. Bernard Greenhouse, prof. Janos Starker, prof. Wolfgang Boettcher, prof. Anner Bylsma, prof. Tsutsumi Tsuyoshi, prof. Gary Hoffman, prof. Jens Peter Mainz and others.

As a chamber music player, Ofer played in Israel's top chamber music societies in Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa and in many concerts around Europe. Preformed with appreciated chamber players as Maria Prinz, Klaus Kanngiesser, Rudolf Koelman, Ludwig Mueller, Tomer Lev, Vladimir Ivanov, Daniel Ottensamer, Risto Laurialla and the "Aviv" quartet. Was a member of the "Gertler" representative quartet of the Buchmann-Mehta school of music with Gilad Hieldesheim and Gadi Abbadi. Ofer performs regularly with his father, prof. Robert Canetti, as soloists and chamber music.

Ofer Canetti - Cello - German

Geboren am 28. August 1987 Ofer Canetti absolvierte das Musikprogramm der „Wizo“ Art Highschool. 2007 schloss er erfolgreich sein Cellostudium an der Buchmann- Mehta School of Music der Universität zu Tel Aviv mit dem Bachelor Diplom ab. Zur Zeit studiert er bei Prof.Klaus Kanngiesser an der Kölner Musikhochschule. Daneben nimmt er häufig Unterricht bei Uzi Wiesel.

Er war Stipendiat mit Auszeichnung der American-Israeli Cultural Foundation(2005) und wird seit 2007 von der Prestige Scholarship für ausländische Studien unterstützt. Er war Preisträger bei dem „Allegro Vivo“ Festival in Österreich mit seiner Interpretotion der F-Dur Sonate von Richard Strauss. Ebenfalls gewann er 2007 den ersten Preis beim Wettbewerb der Streichabteilung der Buchmann-Mehta School of Music und er war Preisträger beim Kammermusikwettbewerb 2006.

Er trat als Solist in Israel und europaweit mit dem Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Haifa Symphony Orchestra, Treviso Chamber Orchestra, The Academy Soloists Orchestra of Astana auf und machte zahlreiche Aufnahmen sowohl als Solist wie auch mit verschiedenen Kammermusikensemblen für das israelische Klassikradio „Kol Hamusika“ Ofer spielt bei vielen Gelegenheiten israelische Kompositionen wie das „Cello Concerto“ von Ben Haim, „Kaddish“ von Mark Kopitman und „Confession“ von Noam Sheriff.

Er nahm an Festivals auf der ganzen Welt teil, so wie „The International Cello Congress“ in Israel 2004-08, „Die Carl Flesch Akademie“ 2006, „The Canetti International Music Festival“ 2001-08, „Kronenberg Akademie“ 2008, „Radolfzell Sommerakademie“ , „Zutphen Cello Festival“ 2009, u.v.a., wo er Meisterkurse renommierter Cellisten wie Prof. Uzi Wiesel, Prof. Bernard Greenhouse, Prof.Janos Starker, Prof.Wolfgang Boettcher, Prof. Anner Bylsma, Prof.Tsutsumi Tsuyoshi, Prof.Gary Hoffman, u.v.a. besuchte.

Als Kammermusiker spielte Ofer mit Israels Top Kammermusikensembles in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem und Haifa, sowie viele Konzerte in ganz Europa. Unter anderem spielte er mit berühmten Musikern wie Maria Prinz, Klaus Kanngiesser, Rudolf Koelman, Ludwig Mueller, Tomer Lev, Massimo Scatolin, Vladimir Ivanov, Daniel Ottensamer, Risto Laurialla und dem „Aviv Quartet“. Er war Mitglied des „Gertler Quartett“, das 2005-06 die Buchmann.Mehta School of Music repräsentierte. Ofer spielt regelmässig solistisch und Kammermusik mit seinem Vater Robert Canetti.

P. Ben-Haim(1897-1984)

In April 2009, Ofer was invited by the Haifa Symphony Orchestra and its Chef Conductor Maestro Noam Sheriff to Perform the Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra by Paul Ben-Haim. Born and raised in Munich, Germany, P. Ben-Haim is one of the most important Israeli composers. He immigrated to Israel in 1933 and was one of the leading figures forming the Israeli music writing. That style combines elements of his western-music education, the middle-eastern atmosphere, Jewish musical traditions from all over the world (especially the Yemen-Jewish tunes and Harmony) with a strong musical expression that describes Israel at the time. As one of the strongest musicians in this first generation of Israeli composers, Ben-Haim raised the coming generations of Israeli composers such as Noam Sheriff, Ami Maayani and many others.

The Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra was written in 1962. The premier took place 10 years laterr, at the "Israel Festival" marking the 75th birthday of Ben-Haim by prof. Uzi Wiesel and the Jerusalem symphony orchestra. Ben-Haim who heard this radio broadcasted performance was very touched. That night he wrote a solo cello sonata "Music for Cello", dedicated to prf. Wiesel, and played all over the world since. Prof Wiesel performed the Concerto with many Orchestras the following years as well as with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. Unfortunately, this Concerto was not performed since 1983. Working with prof. Wiesel in many opportunities enabled Ofer Canetti to discover this unique piece. After the decision to play the piece and with the support and guidance of prof. Wiesel Ofer has marked it as a special project to promote the performances and bringing the piece closer to the public.

Ofer's first performances took place, 26 years after the piece was last performed, in Haifa, Isarel, with the "Haifa Symphony Orchestra" under the conducting of Yoni Farhi on the 29-30 of April and marked the 61st independence day Of Israel. The performances were successfully and warmly supported by the audience and the orchestra. As an encore for this concerts, Ofer chose to cooperate with Gilad Hochman, a great friend and a successful young Israeli composer that lives in Germany, who represents very well the new generation of Israeli composers. Gilad wrote specially for that event a piece called "Erets Acheret"(different land) for Cello solo which is an arrangement of an Israeli song called "I don't have a different land" by the singer Korin El'al. Playing the encore was later described in the local Radio station: "..In the big hall, you could have heard the heart beats of every member of the audience who reacted enthusiastically and with gratitude."

In the last years a great professional bond was created between Ofer and the Bulgarian-Austrian Pianist Maria Prinz. Maria is a very good and fundamental friend of the Canetti foundation and in particular of the Canetti Family.

After playing together all kinds of repertoire in many concerts in Israel, Italy and Belguim, Maria Prinz became an important figure in Ofer's artistic development, and asked him to join a Chamber Music Concerts tour in January and February 2010.

In this project they will be joined by the Clarinetist Howard Klug and Denitsa Laffchieva to perform in great halls a great late romantic program.
